SITTING WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE TEMPLE

A crisp November morning and I park outside the gate,
My choices won't permit me to go in.
My tears, a combination, of happiness and pain,
So much to say....so where do I begin?
The Choir, singing softly, offers solace to my soul.
Repeat the words again, "Be still...Be still..."
And I close my eyes imagining, as sun comes shining in,
And I'm sitting with my daughter in the Temple.

I know someone is guiding you each step along the way,
Her heart is pure, her testimony strong.
And mortal beings and heavenly beings rejoice with you this day,
So grateful to this family you belong.
So I pray that you are smiling, and that you feel self assured,
For you have chosen Heavenly Father's will.
And although I can't be with you, I hope some day to be,
Sitting with my daughter in the Temple.

Each life is filled with extraordinary moments,
A tapestry that only God can see.
And in the dark, dross places, our Savior intercedes
with a perfect blend of justice and mercy.
and A soul that feels exquisite pain, can feel exquisite joy,
looking forward to a lifetime to fulfill
Every sweet, eternal moment, Like the one I'm having now,
As I'm sitting with my daughter in the Temple.

The Astronaut and The Mermaid: the power of friendship

its March. 2017.
St. George City Concert in the Park, Cherie, Lyndy, and Tilby plus my favorite buddies.
Last year at this time, Cherie and I were polishing our tunes, about to launch our kickstarter.

Over the past 7 months that the album has existed, we have played some of the most fun shows in our hometowns but honestly, we haven't done a ton of promoting because we are in the delightful depths of motherhood. (birthday celebrations, sports, school projects, music lessons, cooking, cleaning, general keeping alive, raising humans situations.)

Salt Lake Release Show, Pat, Ryan, Colin, Cherie, Lyndy, Brett.

A few months ago, Cherie told me that she had thought of entering the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The idea came to her mind on the day that the competition was actually closing. ((universe/God/heart prompting))

Well, The Astronaut and the Mermaid was selected as a Grand Prize finalist. and Im just so grateful for her for taking the time to enter and also, I'm so grateful that this song will get the attention it deserves. This album is so special, for so many reasons, and I was feeling so down on myself for not having the time and energy to devote to sharing it.

Also, FRIENDSHIP IS THE COOLEST.

CAn I share a few things that I wouldnt have survived (dramatic, i would have survived but it would have sucked way more) without friends.

On the VERY Day we launched the Kickstarter last Spring, I found out my whole family had lice. yep gross. One of the worst things I have experienced thus far in motherhood. I text Cherie about it while washing all of our bedding and clothes at the laundromat. She told me that she had been there and it was, in fact, super terrible. and her just understanding how hard it was made things a little better.

Then this fall, our downstairs bathroom flooded, and once again Cherie knew my pain. She sent me a blogpost of her traumatic flood experience, ( read about it here, its awful) I felt a little peace in the chaos because she knew exactly what I was going through.

I tend to be a bit of an introvert and I don't think to tell others about the hard stuff going on in my life. Maybe its because I feel like its my business and I dont want to burden others with my drama and maybe I want to appear like I have my shit together... but I so don't. Ive recognized in the last few months how important THE BUDDY SYSTEM project was to me last year. I struggled after Willow was born and having these songs to sing about motherhood and childhood cleared the fog of my postpartum depression. so THANK YOU. Thanks Cherie for being there, even though you are kinda far away, you are my astronaut mermaid ninja pirate hero forever. and thank you everyone who supported this project, with floods, and lice, and depression if I wouldnt have had this project to be a shining colorful highlight of the year, I dont think i would have made it. also this is a great first impression If you are just visiting my blog for the first time because of us winning the contest. Hi, Lets be friends.
Heres a photo of us, completely Lice free, in a newspaper article about our song and project
. you can read the article here. Thanks Brian Passey from the spectrum for a great write-up! Hooray for friends!!

I love you all the colors

"Is this song about skittles?" Our producer, Ryan, sarcastically asked while preparing to lay down our first take. I instantly answered "yep!"
then he asked, "or is it about equality?"
again the answer was, "YES! It Absolutely is."
I took this photo on the way home from the studio that night. the sky was a rainbow and the moon was full.
a secret message to be found.

For the past several years I have felt the arrows of my moral compass spinning. and I have been trying to reestablish a belief system, a reconversion if you will, to mormonism, christianity, and theism. I long to feel comfortable in a spiritual/religious atmosphere, and I haven't felt that in awhile. (Unless you count Nature Church. The ward family I have now is a true blessing and I love them but I feel my insides twist when certain subjects are discussed so nature church is true, amen.) I can't really pin point a moment of testimony disassembling, but I have felt myself dig up my garden of little faith seedlings. A personal pruning and asking myself, what do I want to grow here? I've had to start at the beginning, and so came an understanding of "MY" first basic truths, and then like I do, I turned them into a children's song.

Today was my daughters pre-preschool assessment. On the parent questionnaire, it asked what type of learner do you think your child is? After thinking about it for a few minutes, trying to recall what kinds of ways a person learns, I decided that my 4 year old is a visual learner. All she has to do is "See" what needs to be done. and she can pretty much do it. and this led me to ponder my own learning style. I too, am a seer, then believer, then doer..
So in trying to determine what I believe and strengthen my testimony in those beliefs,  I look with my eyes, instead of my heart. I know thats "Religiously wrong", but human.  (a favorite book is THE LITTLE PRINCE and looking with your heart is the whole moral <3) but even in looking with my eyes I have had manifestations of Love and miracles and goodness, and I've seen evidence that God is real.

-when I LOOK at the Earth. (especially when standing on mountains) I FEEL so much love. how can something this miraculous be an accident. Nope. It couldn't have been just happenstance. The Earth is here for a reason, and that reason is us. My heart tells me. And my eyes tell me.

-when I LOOK at my children. (Like WOW! procreation is the coolest.) I FEEL soooo much love.
(even if you haven't had your own children, or don't plan on being a parent. I think you can recognize that from your own parent or parental figure, or loved one. humans are amazing. and the love we get to share is amazing) then I imagine what it must feel like for God. like mind exploding amounts of love. for each of his children.

I feel like a child ALL THE TIME. (hoping and wondering if I am doing this human thing right)
so much failure, so much learning. I feel like I am constantly trying to connect with my creator and the world around me. Constantly praying. Constantly saying THANK YOU, for the opportunities given to me. or just all experiences in general. I am so glad to be a part of this world, and to get to live this life.  I believe in God. just this week I had a prayer blatantly, face-slappingly answered. LIKE PRAYER, BAM, ANSWER! it was nuts.
(I'd tell you the story but its a little embarrassing and I'm already spilling a whole lot of guts here.)

At the beginning of our Kickstarter I shared the origins of this song, it was a little riddle game with my kids. But this is the Deep  plunge of thoughts  and feelings on the matter. "ILYATC" is my ultimate and simplest love song. and It is about whatever kind of love you need and want it to be about. Sure, it can be about Love for Skittles, For me it is a love song and story about a cosmic creator. A Creator who loves all equally. Just exactly the way we are, so yes its about equality. I believe in creation. In this day and age, it may be considered silly to have faith in things that cant be proven, but to me the proof is in the colors.

PS. Fun Studio Fact about the production. I sang ILYATC one time. this was just the scratch vocal, and Cherie and I liked it a lot so we kept it. Another one of those "meant to be, it wanted to be created" kind of moments. I love love love how this production turned out, Cherie and Ryan surprised me with the call and response back ground vocal and it was the best thing ever. that, and Chris's Splashy snare drum. So perfect!

Yours and Mine

this song took three years to come together.
My Aunt Adriana asked me to write a song about how sometimes we don't recognize our own talents and how sometimes we don't feel very special, but we are! We are so incredibly special its incomprehensible! So,
I started off talking about how there are a million bajillion people in the world.

"Like the sands of the sea, or the stars above me, im just one among a number without end.
A few lines of poetry, in a giant library, ready to give you all I am"

and then the lyrics took me in a direction I wasnt expecting. it turned into a sweet little song about unconditional love.

"In a world where if its broken you can throw it all away, if the tide takes down the castle, it can be replaced"

One of my Aunt Dran's incredible talents is loving in a way that makes you feel so special. I am one among a number of nieces, and nephews and so many cousins and she has always made me feel like I was so important to her, and that our love was somehow more meaningful and different. People that have this ability are extraordinary. and you are lucky if you know someone with this superpower. the kind of person that makes you feel that

"There will never be another you and me, this pair is one of a kind, there never has been and there never will be a love like, yours and mine"

I had the first verse and chorus for a year and a half and for some reason I struggled finding the next verse.
then The Buddy System project came into existence. I shared this song with Cherie and she knew it was a song about motherhood before I did.
She took the next verse exactly where it needed to go.
the love for our children is so unique.
and the love for every special friend matters in multiple magical and important ways. each and every esoteric love story cant be compared to another. we are different, each snowflake, fingerprint, and poem.

I hope you like this song that took awhile but came together at just the right time. I hope it reminds you of some one special. Im quite certain, it will.

PS, the instrumentation on this song is so perfect it makes my heart swim. I wanted it to be beachy and happy and Ryan Tilby is the Mer-Man!

PPS I just got back from the most amazing dream vacation with my family. We spent ten days with my dad and stepmom in Hawaii. And running on the beach, jumping over waves, building sand castles and rebuilding sand castles was heavenly. I sang this song the whole time.

New York in the Spring

A few weeks ago, my bestie Ana visited Rome with her husband. They didnt have plans, they just let the journey take them where it wanted them to go. It reminded me of our trip to New York last spring. no plans, just the journey.

We started at the World Trade Center. and the memorial there. It is haunting and beautiful and sent us on a path of examining human existence, belief, and faith.
we lit a candle at St. Patricks Cathedral, recieved our fortune at the Buddhist temple. (we thought that all the fortunes must be good because she and I only pulled out the best of them, but then a homeless gentlemen we were visiting with gave us his and his was much different, it broke my heart and I tried to shake off the eeriness of comparing our life journeys/outcomes) We crashed a Jehovahs Witness group tour at the Met and learned so much about art and philosophy and connected it to Christ and the scriptures (this was my favorite event), we also tried to attend Mormon church in China town but had missed it. we had an odd conversation with the Stake president that left me feeling like no one knows what the hell is going on, so you might as well choose something to believe in. Why not Mormonism. sure. We also saw my buds Caroline and Robby perform at the Rockwood, and tried to break into Carnegie Hall. it was my favorite kind of personal adventure. Thanks Ana for being my person.

The Buddy System: An Astronaut Mermaid collaboration

I am happy to announce that a new album is in the works.
Its a collaboration with Cherie Call. One of my favorite songwriters and all around favorite kind of person.
On Sunday she blogged about her side of the back story of how this came to be (read about it Here, and Here), and I thought I'd share a little bit of how it all came to be, for me.

Last Winter, I wrote a song called Stubborn. It was about a child of mine, that is indeed, stubborn. I was excited about this tune and got into the studio to record as soon as I could. While working with Ryan Tilby as the producer on Stubborn, he asked me what my plans were for the future. So I started dreaming some up. I didn't really have a lot of new songs yet. I had beginnings, and a dozen darling ideas in my pocket, but nothing substantial. I did however know that I was inspired by Ryans friend, and one of my long time heroes, Cherie Call. I love the sound, the structure and the heart of her work. and knew I wanted my next album to sound like one of hers. is that weird? Well, at first we thought that maybe asking her to be a guest producer would be the way to do that. and Ryan said, well lets ask Cherie!
So he said he'd email her. and I thought, "cool!"
A few weeks later I heard back from her and she said producing wasn't really her forte, but she'd love to hear and possibly tunesmith my songs, and I was thrilled. How fun to be able to have a little collaboration.
I had just written a song called My Greatest Adventure, and I really liked it. It also happened to be another song for and about my kids. So I thought maybe I should roll with this theme, I was spending my days surrounded by my little ones, why not try and focus on more songs just for them. I have written songs about my kids in the past. Air to Me, is a song on my first album that came to me while pulling my kids around in our little red wagon. but it isn't about a wagon at all. So I thought, I should probably have an actual wagon song. I sat down and plunked out a little diddy on my banjo, sent it to Cherie in a voice memo and asked her what she thought. I needed help with a second verse and didn't know where to go next. She messaged me back a few days later with a darling second verse.  It was so fun and fast and I couldn't wait to sing the song to my kids, but honestly I didn't know exactly what we were going to do with this silly little co-write. I've always thought a children's album would be fun, I've always thought collaborating would be fun, and I thought about what Ryan had said, ask Cherie. So I did. and this maybe isn't really all that exciting of a story to anyone but me...HA!

My favorite part of the whole story is that this all happened over a year ago. The beginning of last summer, we met up at Cherie's house (which is 4 hours away from where I live, but is literally just around the corner from Jon Butler's Brothers house, funny!) to just chat about how a whole album collaboration could maybe work. When I got there she was holding her baby girl, neighborhood friends were playing in her backyard, and it all felt very familiar. Rewind a few weeks back, to right after we wrote the wagon song, and after asking what she thought about this project, I found out I was pregnant with baby number four. Now at her house, I told her I was feeling discouraged and doubting if mothering and musicing was still possible. I want to give all of my heart to both and that makes me feel crazy sometimes. She reassured me that my music life was not over, it would just be a little trickier, and messier, but still very possible. I was so grateful to have this hope. and to have this new friend. SO now the plan was to write more songs!

The process was slow and perfect. We were patient with each others busy schedules and the whole buddy system just clicked. The timing was always natural and the writing inspired. The emails and voice memos back and forth were highlights of my week. There are many instances in these songs where we bring up the sands of the desert or the ocean, but also the stars and space and it made me feel like we were entering a whole new place. Exploring new territory as a collaboration. When I had created the google doc titled {an astronaut mermaid collaboration} it just felt like a perfect description. even though it had nothing to do with us... yet.

Now, there is this beautiful painting by Heather Solomon as our album cover and an adorable song to match. We still have a long ways to go to make this long awaited dream a reality. but thanks to so many of you, we are working our way towards the goal. We are one week into our kickstarter campaign. and we are half way there. If you would like to join in on this expedition, check it out here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2102959376/the-buddy-system?ref=nav_search
I also wanted to share a little bit of a song called My Greatest Adventure. Its the song that made me really want to do a childrens album. I love being a mom for so many reasons. and this song kind of describes a few of those.

Happy accidents and goofs that help you grow.

It is November, and life is hilarious.
someday pants..
and
It goes so fetching fast!

SO let me fill you in on the last 6.5 months.

Last post I wrote about my recent gal trips,
And how growing old is fun, with all its lose skin and tired bones...but still fun.
On the way home from my vegas trip, I stopped at some fun thrift stores. I bought some cute pants that were a little tight but I planned on them being goal pants, I blamed the Cheesecake factory from the night before, and got myself a protein style In-n-Out burger as punishment. Ha!
The next week I got a job as a part time piano teacher at a darling Charter school in Hurricane, and the next day I found out,  OH WHAT THE WHAT- IM PREGNANT!?! (So goal pants will hang in my closet for a lot longer now) ((and also the reason I was feeling so old and tired was maybe because I was PREGNANT! so crazy.)) the ultimate happy accident.

Playing at the OC Tanner this Summer.
So, I took it easy on the music side of life this summer, and it was wonderful. I had one big Show in June with Steve, Ryan and Chris. and then the rest of the summer was pretty much devoted to family time and baby growing. I've played little shows here and there and played George Fest with Chris and Kevin, but I haven't really devoted a whole lot of time and energy to this part of my life...and I'm feeling it.
I feel a big void and its strange.

Yesterday was Veterans Day. My School had an assembly for the vets in the area and two of my piano students played a little number they had been working on. They didn't do as well as they should have. They played it perfectly the day before, but struggled once nerves set in. I was so proud of them and their first big performance, but my heart ached for them as I saw them struggle, then sit with their families after with their heads hanging low. One of them couldn't hold back the tears. I told her she had done fine, and that she KNOWS she can play it so perfect, so try not to think about it too much and lets rock our next performance.

After school, I sat at my computer trying to hunt down a fun photo of my mom because I wanted to post something for her birthday. While I was searching back through my stuff, I came across so many videos of myself performing, but not feeling like I did well enough to share. and now it feels like those things never happened, because I kept them to myself. Some of these events, I cried about, knowing that I could have done so much better, and being embarrassed. But making those mistakes and doing the thing that I love even though Im not perfect is how I want to live my life. and I want my students to live this way too. They are trying and being brave and I am proud of them... and me... So... let me share with you a few things that I never really have talked about, but have helped me grow.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN FOLKS FEST:

I loved this event so much, but I hated my guitar playing. I am a pianist and I rely heavily on my band. but in this competition it could only be me. I thought I was prepared, When I first sat down, the sound guys had to switch around some stuff making me wait... I got flustered...and played my wrong song first. The second song was the one they judged and I had played my competition song first, GAH! I was so disappointed in myself. but yesterday, I listened to this recording, and Loved that I had this experience. even though I made a lot of goofs that whole weekend at a really big event, I learned so much!

In February I had a secret Invite only audition for The Voice. I was nervous. and my smile was way too out of control. and they hated me? I only got to sing one song and was asked to go, it was so strange because I had had previous auditions with them and they had asked me sing more than one song and at least pretended to consider me, not this time. I stopped singing and they said, no thanks. pack your things. It was bananas. and I felt like the biggest dummy ever. While I was leaving I bumped into Dustin Christensen who was so confident and awesome, they asked him what track he would be singing to and he said, "none, I don't sing to tracks" and they said well you were supposed to have one prepared, and he said, well I don't. and then he rocked and was on the show and was my hero. I learned a lot from this experience. And Im glad it happened. and I don't think I will do this TV show audition thing again. Its not my bag. and I don't have to try and be what they want. and just be me.
That is so refreshing.

After my Audition, we went for tacos at the Red Iguana, This quote was on the wall. Made my day!

Also being with my people, really made my day! Thanks Kate and Gray, we love you and
tacos.
I want to record my songs that I prepared for that audition, because I loved them. So hopefully in the next few days I will make sometime and share them...

Thanks for reading my blog, I'm glad to think about the things that have happened this year and in years passed as I've tried to share a little bit of my heart. I'm going to try not to be embarrassed and be more confident in the amazing and fun things Ive been a part of. Life is hilarious...and goes so fast. I have a few more weeks till we meet new little Butler. So very excited for all that she will add to this adventure!

Never too old to set another goal.

Last weekend, I partied with my friends in Vegas. (And by party I mean ordered anything I wanted off the menu at the Cheesecake Factory. Then went to Walgreens for a new tube of a funky off the wall shade of lipstick. because thats what you do when you are young.)

For Spring Break a few weeks prior I was in New York, visiting my best friend from high school. We had an amazing time despite my tired achy bones from taking the red eye, and her tired achy bones from fending off a cold her family so lovingly shared with her just before our gal pal retreat. So we were kinda lame that first day. and we went to bed around 10:30pm. About 15 minutes into night- night, we hear some sick beats on full blast coming from the bathroom down the hall. Our AirBnB flatmates were sexy 20-somethings, just getting ready to go out on the town. Ana, My bra-less heroine, busted down the hall to tell them to tone it down, cuz we were sleeeeeeeping. shhhhhh! They graciously turned down their music, and we fell back asleep. the end.

The next morning. we felt so OLD that we would shut down such an event...
"SHUT IT DOWN, LADIES, there are moms sleeping in here!!"
Ana described one of the girls to me, she had an amazing Fro and bright green lipstick. So I vowed to get a fun colored lipstick the next time I was away from home. cuz that would make me super wild and fun...

So back to last weekend, after dinner with the raddest carpool moms around, I told them my story and we all went to Walgreens to hunt down some youth. I found Orange, and Hot Pink, and Gold. We went back to our hotel room and around 10:30, we all put on some color, I helped a few of them dye their hair, we listened to loud music and then it hit me. I FREAKING LOVE BEING 30! Yes, I am way tired. but Life is amazing!! also, I look super ridiculous with a bright colored lipstick. But I have built a beautiful life, with an incredible man, we have darling children, we have plans, and ideas, and sometimes I get to have a weekend away to think about it all...
we talked about life and love and our goals and what we like about ourselves. It was so empowering and wonderful.
The goals that these ladies shared with me made me a better woman. Holly wants to someday have a horse and have property for her kids to be responsible for.
Katie wants financial freedom and knows her business can take her there.
Merinda wants to be the best Grandma ever. Thus meaning she will be the kind of mom that her kids like to be around, to live by, and let their kids come over as often as possible.
To be surrounded by people that love her.
THE ULTIMATE GOAL.

I am so grateful for great friends that remind me what is truly important. and thats love.
and supporting each other in our different endeavors. Man you all are amazing. and I love you. Good luck with all you are working towards. I Believe in YOU!

ROBOT LOVE SONG

Once upon a time, there was a gal who didn't think she'd ever find a perfect match... AND THEN SHE DID! but then came the sneaking suspicion that He was probably a Robot...

This song came to be after Max and I were coloring with chalk on the sidewalk. we were drawing robots and his robot came and stole the heart from my robot...It was very sweet. and then he asked me, "Mom, why haven't you written me a song about a robot?"

I had no idea Why I hadn't done that yet, the nerve...so we went inside and I sat at the piano and out popped this little tune.

Parker Jacobs and Will Kindrick are superheroes with the most creative brains on the planet. What fun it has been to work with them.

Please watch and share and remember to love and adore all the robots in your life!

Halfway through 2014...Wha?!?

This year is cruising.
and I wanted to document a few of the things I've been up to.

Lots of shows.
In April I was in the Full Fidelity Songwriters showcase in Salt Lake.
Brian Frates and Steve Phillips invited me up and we had such a wonderful time.
Everyone I know needs to go to these events. the venue is small and intimate, the atmosphere is endearing, and the talent these guys are bringing in is groundbreaking. Listening to Selja Sini and Matthew and The hope was an inspiration and so much fun!!!
Steve sent me this video from that night and I love it. great memories made.
 http://vimeo.com/95823799

In May, I opened for the Lovely Gabrielle Louise at the Music Barn in Parowan, Utah.
FIND HER! she is enchanting. seriously one of the most genuine artists I have ever met. Her new band THE DAMES is just getting started and I know they will be doing some fabulous things.

This Month has been my favorite so far.
{I try to only play one or two shows a month, its not a lot but its all me and the family can handle right now. Jon Butler is finished with school HALLELUJAH! and the kids are getting bigger so more playing shows should be easier soon. I hope.}
last week I went to Girls Camp in Beaver on Thursday, and Then Saturday hit up the NIBLEY CITY CELEBRATION!! It was wonderful. Like I found my people kinda wonderful.

In Nibley I played with Steve, Dutch and Ryan as a band. I am usually playing solo or as a duo with Steve and I gotta say the BAND RULES! it is a blast and I can't wait to book more gigs with these guys. Its a party. Thanks guys for being so fun. and Thanks everyone who spread the word on where I was to be playing, and especially THANK YOU FOR COMING!! you are making my summer one to remember.

Tomorrow I am playing a little private show at East elementary for a summer camp. then the next show is July 11th in Boulder, Utah at the Boulder Heritage Festival. Life is really fun. I'm feeling so blessed to get to do what I love.
and its also really messy. Right now there are 6 little boys tornado-ing through my house as I type this. Rocko just asked me to find him more weapons so I should probably go watch them. ha! such a HAPPY SUMMER So FAR!!  and we are only half-way through. wow.

Oh, The Places you'll Go

Sunday was Dr. Seuss's 110th birthday.
and this week, kids all over the country are dressing up like Bloogs and Klopfers, Bar-ba-loots and Whoos! They are also reading a whole bunch and sharing their dreams and future plans and awesome ideas and being silly and happy and I just want to say thanks to Dr. Seuss for everything he has inspired. What a Treasure it is to know these stories.

One of my absolute favorite parts of this week, is the "What do you want to be when you grow up" Day. Seeing photos of your little people dressed up in their future career attire fills with me delight. I CAN HARDLY STAND IT! It makes me want to hang out with you guys and chat about why they picked to be a zookeeper? and ask What is their favorite animal? or Why do you want to be a chef? Whats your favorite food? will you have nachos at your restaurant? Can we make Nachos right now?
and MOSTLY, I want to tell every single darlin-dear dressed up in their duds, I BELIEVE IN THEM! I really do, I believe in you. Whatever you want to be, you will be. this is the reason I wanted to be a teacher. because anything is possible if you work hard and believe.

When I was little, I wanted to be a teacher. and a singer. equally. I would line up my stuffed animals and have a concert for them, then I would read to them. then sing to them again.
I would plan activities for the neighbor kids. Crafts and snacks and reading and singing time. and now I get to do this with my own kids and It really is the most beautiful and wonderful life. I feel so lucky to get to live my dream.

Now I want to help others do the same. My "Going Places" album was inspired greatly by turning into a "Grown-Up" and by "Oh the places you'll go". especially the song, LOVED BY ME. This song was for my oldest son, on his first day of kindergarten. Now that the song is recorded, 50% of every download from my website here http://lyndybutler.com/track/loved-by-me-haitian-roots-download will be donated to the Haitian Roots Organization that is providing education to children in Haiti.

Haiti has an illiteracy rate of 85%. This results in crimes and abuses of all kinds. Haitian Roots believes that education is the key to changing Haitian society. The board of Haitian Roots is committed to fighting against the atrocities that are happening to the youth of Haiti.
The organization will give the children of this nation an alternative to the path of poverty they are currently embarked upon.
My Introduction to this group was a youtube video, and at the end of the video were kids holding signs of what they wanted to be when they grew up. The signs said "Teacher" "Doctor" "Architect" "Driver" and when they were asked why they wanted to be those things..it was because they wanted to help other people. It touched my heart. Their willingness to serve and their spirit and determination is so inspiring and I want to help and I hope you will help too. Please take the time to donate by downloading the tune or by visiting their website.  http://www.haitianroots.com/
When I wrote "LOVED BY ME" I was thinking about my son and the kids in our community, and how much I believe in them. I hadn't even thought about the children outside of our country who don't have the advantages we have. Free public education is such a blessing. At times, I have been discouraged by large class sizes and diminishing arts programs, but really we are so fortunate to live where we do and have the opportunities we have. I believe every child deserves a chance and an education. Please help me raise money to support a child, or hopefully several children in reaching their distant dream.

HAVE AN AMAZING DR. SEUSS WEEK!

ps* This year Max wants to be an archeologist
and Rocko wants to be a builder. Oh how I love them!!

On the Up-n-Up

So it happened. I've never been so sick that I had to cancel a gig.
but it happened. I completely lost my voice and felt just miserable about missing the biggest New Years Eve party of the CENTURY!! it was a total bummer.
but then two days later I got the paper and found out my Going Places Album was The Spectrums Local album of the Year. That sure lifted my spirits to the moon! THANK YOU!

THANK YOU EVERYONE for all of your support the last few months.
It has been a blast seeing your social media posts and wearing your robot shirts, and hearing about your favorite songs from the album. You truly are what makes this the best job in the world.
thanks Becky for the insta photo!

Marilla and Stacie! I couldn't do my thing without them!

I saw Gordon Strang, Southern Utahs most awesome radio personality, drummer,  local music supporter and promoter, a few weeks after my release show and he was wearing this! He played the drums for the release show. and was awesome!

and Eric Dodge tells me he wears his robot T all the time. That makes me so glad. I feel so Lucky to have such fun and talented friends.
