Youtube Cover Videos = super lots of fans and stuff

So I recently met a few executive television/music producer type people that suggested a good way to get my name out into the music world was to make really awesome Youtube cover song videos. A lot of artists have done it. The most notable and familiar to many of you might be The Piano Guys. I Love them, They are totally rad and I love the music they are putting out and their team happens to come from good ol' Southern UTAH! They are super talented and hardworking and this process landed them a record deal with SONY. SWEET!
so, I have always thought that maybe A really cool video and cover might be fun to try. Well, this weekend I tried it. and I feel super awkward in front of a camera.

Everything I tried to put together cheaply was sad. and weird.
and made me feel sad and weird and made me eat lots of mini candy bars. so, Im taking a break from lip synch videos...

After being frustrated that nothing was really coming together as I had hoped.
I decided to just sit down and play the song live.
even though my family was being crazy.
even though I knew I was going to mess up.
even though my piano is horribly out of tune.
and even though it wasn't going to be incredible like having a piano on the top of a mountain or on a train. and It won't get thousands of views or hits or blast me into the interweb's virtual hall of fame.
I am not a rock star.
I am a songwriter.
and mom and this is my real, lovely and simple life.
my kids singing and playing along.
the dishwasher whirring in the background.
and me being so happy to be able to just sit and play a tune I really love.
and this time, the tune was Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

Here is a studio recorded version you can listen and download if your heart so desires.

and here is the wildly entertaining, Live version

I love music and singing but even more I really love songwriting and sharing my stories or stories of others through song. I know Originals are a tough sell, but Thats where my heart is.

Thanks for bearing with me as I learn more about myself and my creative process.
I got a message from a friend this morning that I am so grateful for. She reminded me to
Keep doing what feeds your soul - that matters more than how we usually measure what was successful or not.
Thank you Jennifer. Yours words helped me more than you know!

and Even though I spent more time than Id like to admit, trying to make something cool, I am not going to consider it a waste of my time. I learned something. and luckily Jon Butler is a genius and thinks of fun things to do instead of making wacky videos. Like Glowstick Xyllophones. and mini kite flying. I hope you all had a great, un-wasteful weekend as well!
